Dr Amina Memon is Professor of Psychology, Royal Holloway College, University of London. She has been conducting research in the Psychology and Law area for 30 years. She has published over 100 articles and two texts. Her expertise lies in Cognitive and Social Psychology. Her specialist areas are witness memory, investigative interviewing and biases in decision-making. Her focus is on factors that compromise reliability (accuracy) as well as credibility (honesty). She has disseminated her work widely and has given formal and informal talks to professional groups and at specialist workshops designed to advance knowledge of practitioners (e.g. the police and judiciary). Her research has received media coverage and her expert opinion has been sought on numerous civil (family court) and criminal cases. Her research is international with collaborations in Australia, Brazil, New Zealand, North America, Germany and Sweden.
Amina is a Fellow of the British Psychological Society, the Association for Psychological Science and the Royal Society of Arts. Her contributions to the voluntary sector include serving as a trustee for the Centre for the Study of Emotion and the Law and on the project advisory board for Asylum Aid. Amina high profile in applied research led to her recent appointment on the Research and Ethics board for Freedom from Torture. Within the public sector Amina is working with the Metropolitan Police in devising a strategy to create an inclusive and diverse police force. In her spare time Amina is currently writing a book on what makes Asian women successful in business. Finally, Amina works with Mosaic a charity which inspires young people from deprived communities to realise their talent and potential.
