Nyall has 19 years police service, 11 of which dealing with serious and organized crime. He was selected to attend one of the first courses in the UK run by the Greater Manchester Police as a specialist interviewer when the new Advanced Interview Tier system was implemented in 2003 and has been an advocate of the new interviewing process ever since.
Nyall has been a practitioner of the Tier 3 specialist interviewer system using his skills in numerous complex cases, from basic crimes to Rape and Homicide. Nyall has been teaching the skills involved in interviewing since 2003 In the UK and now more recently in Australia following his emigration in 2006. He is currently a regular lecturer of police from uniform officers to plain clothed detectives from the criminal Investigation branch including senior officers.
He has a passion for the Investigative Interviewing process, in both an overt or covert environment.
Nyall also qualified as an interview assessor, providing detailed feedback with the focus on improving the interviewers’ communication skills to meet the needs of legislative change.
Nyall has worked on numerous murder enquiries and acted in the specialist interview teams on many occasions where his skills have been invaluable to the investigative process bringing serious offenders to justice. “Interviewing is so much more than simply asking some question, tough or otherwise. It is an exciting prospect passing on my interviewing skills to those from the private and public sector within the corporate world and beyond.”
